19th Century Eye-Form Spinner Fob with Rock Crystal Intaglio of Lovebirds

£295.00

A 19th-century gilt metal spinner fob set with an oval rock crystal intaglio carved with two confronted lovebirds above a tied bow. The paired birds signify harmony and mutual devotion, while the bow represents a binding union - a visual expression of attachment and fidelity.

The crystal is backed in red to intensify the design when viewed from the front.

The mount rotates within its frame. To the reverse, it is formed as a stylised eye, defined by concentric chased detailing suggesting iris and pupil. The eye, long associated with vigilance and protection, introduces a second layer of meaning: watchfulness and guardianship.

The combination of lovebirds and eye unites themes of affection and protection - a jewel concerned as much with emotional bonds as with safeguarding them.

Dimensions: 3cm × 2.5 cm

Materials: gilt metal; rock crystal; red backing

Comes with velvet ribbon pictured. Chain available, please message.

Condition: good antique condition with wear consistent with age and former seal use. Please examine the pictures as they form part of the description.
