A beautifully understated Victorian mourning ring in 9ct rose gold, dating to the second half of the 19th century. The ring is centred with an oval glazed compartment containing finely woven hairwork, framed by a delicate border of natural seed pearls.

Hairwork jewellery was created as a deeply personal memorial, preserving the hair of a loved one beneath glass. The surrounding seed pearls symbolised tears and remembrance.

The ring has a substantial closed-back mount with a simple polished shank and is comfortable to wear despite its bold proportions.
