A beautiful and sentimental Victorian mourning ring, in 14ct gold and dating to 1873.
The broad tapered band is decorated with black enamel and an applied floral design of seed-pearl forget-me-nots, linked by delicate gold stems and leaves. Forget-me-nots symbolised remembrance and enduring affection, while seed pearls were traditionally associated with tears, making the design especially meaningful in Victorian mourning jewellery.
A hand-engraved memorial inscription inside the band is dated 1873.
