A Victorian silver locket, circa 1875-1885 with a bird among flowering branches in the naturalistic Japanese-influenced style associated with the Aesthetic Movement. Geometric engraving to the reverse, suspended from black antique lace ribbon.

The Aesthetic period drew heavily on Japanese art and asymmetrical natural forms, with birds, blossom and foliage becoming recurring motifs in jewellery and decorative arts.

Condition: Good antique condition. The hinge has a little movement but the locket closes securely. Please examine the pictures as they form part of the description.
