Victorian Bloodstone Fob on Chased Gold Split Ring
Circa 19th Century
A finely detailed 19th-century bloodstone fob, mounted on a chased gilt split ring, originally intended for a gentleman’s watch chain and now worn as a pendant or talisman.
Bloodstone is a stone of courage, protection, and steadfastness. In the Victorian era it was closely associated with moral strength, loyalty, and vitality, often chosen for seals and fobs carried daily - intimate objects meant to accompany their owner through life’s negotiations and journeys.
The polished bloodstone is set within a petite, elegantly worked gold mount, its restrained scale and careful chasing typical of authentic early fobs. The gold acid tests as 9ct, yet retains a rich yellow tone, consistent with earlier gold alloys rather than modern blends. At just 1.5 grams, it remains light and refined.
The split ring can accommodate further charms.
Details
Metal: Acid tested 9ct gold, chased split ring
Total weight: approx. 1.5 g
Fob dimensions: approx. 2 cm x 1 cm
Split ring diameter: approx. 1 cm
Condition: Very good antique condition with gentle wear consistent with age
Comes with a 45cm 14ct gold-filled chain and a length of black antique lace.
