A gilt-metal heart-shaped padlock pendant necklace beautifully worked with scrolling foliate decoration and a central keyhole motif. Originally likely made as a bracelet clasp or decorative padlock fitting, it is now suspended from a fine 45cm 14ct gold-filled chain and works beautifully as a pendant.
The heart-and-lock combination carried obvious associations of love, fidelity and attachment in Victorian jewellery, making these pieces as symbolic as they were functional.
