A solid 9ct gold oval Victorian locket, drenched in sentiment, dating to the late 19th century. One side is engraved with a forget-me-not spray, while the reverse carries the initials EW within a shield-shaped cartouche framed by a buckled belt.
The belt and buckle was a familiar Victorian symbol of attachment, fidelity and enduring bonds. Combined with the forget-me-not, a flower closely associated with remembrance, the decoration gives the locket a very direct sentimental language.
