A late Victorian silver spinner fob, Birmingham 1887/88, set with bloodstone to one side and carnelian to the other, held within a simple rope-edged rotating frame.
Spinner fobs were tactile objects originally attached to the end of a fob chain, made to turn freely in the hand, with the cool weight of the stones and the simple movement giving it much of its appeal.
Bloodstone carried long associations with courage, protection and vitality, while carnelian was traditionally linked with strength, resolve and protection against misfortune - a pairing that gives the piece a particularly talismanic quality.
Suspended here from a later 45cm recycled silver chain.
Condition: Good antique condition with age-related surface wear consistent with use. Please examine the pictures as they form part of the description.
Fob is 3.5cm x 2.5cm
