A small Victorian Whitby jet cross pendant, suspended from a lightly oxidised 45cm recycled sterling silver chain with a silver swivel clasp.
Jet had long associations with mourning and remembrance, but also with protection; its dense black surface made it a particularly charged material in Victorian jewellery.
