A good example of mid-to-late 19th century mourning jewellery, this large Victorian vulcanite locket features a high-relief design of birds nesting to the front.
Vulcanite is a hardened rubber compound used extensively in mourning jewellery due to its dark appearance and ability to be intricately moulded.
Condition:
Locket intact. Retains the original brass photo bezel and glass cover. Good antique condition, with minor wear consistent with age and material. Hinge and closure functioning securely. Please examine the pictures as they form part of the description.
