Victorian AEI Silver Locket

Victorian AEI Silver Locket
(Note - Chain sold Separately).
An incredible sentimental statement piece - A substantial Victorian Silver Locket with the AEI inscription. “AEI” is the Greek word for “always” (αεί). That word was adopted into British and continental jewellery design as shorthand for eternity and constancy. From this root came multiple readings:
“Amity, Eternity, Infinity” - a later English reinterpretation aligning with friendship and devotion and “Amor, Eterna, Immortalis” - a Latinised reinterpretation used by jewellers to make the meaning explicit: love eternal and immortal.
A locket that means ‘forever’.
Presented with antique black lace (image 7) and a recycled 45cm silver chain (image 6). The chunky collar pictured is available separately.
Condition: Excellent antique condition. The locket closes securely. Unglazed interior. Please examine the pictures as they form part of the description.
Suze: 7.2cm with bale x 4.5cm
