A striking mid to late Victorian polished steel chatelaine retaining an attractive collection of original domestic accessories.
Suspended from a pierced steel clip are six chains supporting an assortment of practical implements, including a notebook, a sewing case, a propelling pencil, tape measure, needle case, thimble bucket, pincushion and folding fruit knife.
Originally worn suspended from a waistband, chatelaines combined practicality with status and are now sought after both by collectors and by those drawn to their distinctly contemporary, almost industrial aesthetic.
Condition
Good antique condition with honest wear throughout, including age-related surface marks and oxidation to the polished steel consistent with over 120 years of use. The accessories remain functional and it displays beautifully.
