This antique piece features a heart carved from brecciated jasper - often called blood jasper - a stone historically associated with endurance, strength, and sacrifice. Its marbled red and black surface evokes the arterial bloom of fresh blood.

The heart is set in 9ct gold, suspended from an early 20th-century base metal guard chain that can be doubled round and worn close around the throat or hung low across the chest.
