Victorian Sterling Silver Locket - Ivy Leaves

Victorian Sterling Silver Locket - Ivy Leaves
The engraving on this beautiful Victorian locket is ivy, one of the most meaningful plants in 19th-century jewellery. Ivy represented loyalty, and constancy - an enduring bond, which is why it appeared so often on sentimental and mourning pieces.
The arched framing around the leaves is typical of Gothic Revival design, perhaps suggesting the idea of a protected inner space - something kept close and carried privately.
There is a space on the reverse for engraving.
Condition: Good antique condition - crisp engraving, only very slight age commensurate surface undulations. Closes securely. Please examine the pictures as they form part of the description.
Size: 5cm x 3.5cm including bale. Presented on black antique lace. 17g.
