Victorian Bookchain Collar and Locket

Victorian Bookchain Collar and Locket
A Victorian silver ”book-chain” collar and locket with ivy leaves.
Book-chain necklaces originated in the mid to late Victorian era (circa 1860s–1880s) and became a popular jewellery style. The term “book chain” comes from the rectangular, flat links that resemble the spines of books. This fastens at the front with a bolt ring which can be used to hang other charms and lockets.
This is beautifully engraved with ivy leaves which Victorians loved for their meaning of eternal life and fidelity (since ivy clings and remains evergreen).
Chain 41 cm, total weight 34.3g
Locket 5cm (with bail) x 3.5cm
