Circa 1870 silk jacket

£195.00

Beautiful Royal Blue and cream silk jacket with metallic bullion trim and brass buttons from the 1870s. Classic 1870s narrow, sloped shoulders, emphasizing the natural shoulder line, nipped in waist and flared hips to fit over a bustle skirt. This would be a beautiful addition to any collection.

In the 1870s, fashion underwent significant changes compared to the earlier part of the century. During this period, the silhouette of women's dresses evolved, moving away from the wide crinolines of the mid-19th century. The late 1870s marked the beginning of the bustle era.

Good antique condition, structurally sound, one pin hole near the top of one shoulder (please carefully examine the pictures as they form part of the description). This has a small waist size but could easily be worn open. This is a beautiful, strong antique, wearable with care.

Waist closed - 21”

Shoulder seam to shoulder seam (dropped shoulders) 17.5”

Natural shoulder approx 14.5”

Hip measurement 38”

Length of sleeve from seam 14.5”

Sleeve length from natural shoulder 16”

Shoulder to hem 17”
