Antique Victorian AEI Onyx and Gold Locket with Seed Pearls & Gold

Antique Victorian AEI Onyx and Gold Locket with Seed Pearls & Gold
This exquisite Victorian locket is a striking example of mourning jewellery at its finest, made from glossy onyx and adorned with an ornate AEI monogram - interpreted as “Amity, Eternity, Infinity” or “Amor Eterno Immortal” (Immortal and Eternal Love 🖤). The solid gold detailing is beautifully highlighted with delicate seed pearls, symbolising purity, love, and remembrance. Onyx was listed in 19th-century gem guides as a stone that “fortifies the spirit against adversity.
On the reverse, the locket opens to reveal its original compartment, currently holding a preserved pressed violet - signifying faithful remembrance (my addition).
AEI jewellery is highly sought after among Victorian collectors due to its romantic symbolism and beautiful craftsmanship. Jet lockets of this size and quality, especially with intact seed pearl work, are increasingly rare.
Era: Circa Late 1800s.
Material: Whitby jet, seed pearls, 9ct gold.
Condition: Beautiful antique condition with expected light wear; jet is smooth and glossy, pearls intact, hinge secure, original glass.
Dimensions
Pendant: Approx 5.5cm x 3.3cm including bail.
45cm 14ct gold-filled chain & antique lace ribbon: Included as shown.
