Victorian Vulcanite Choker with Cross
A Victorian mourning choker, circa 1860–80, reconfigured from an original vulcanite fob chain and a large vulcanite cross pendant. Vulcanite, a hardened rubber material patented in the mid-19th century, was widely used in mourning jewellery for its black finish and mouldability. The cross, measuring 8.5 cm by 5 cm, features detailed relief-moulded rose motifs- symbols of remembrance and enduring love.
Choker length: 34 cm (extension available upon request)
Pendant size: 8.5 x 5 cm
Fittings are base metal.
