Victorian Bohemian Garnet Cluster Locket, circa 1870

£395.00

A striking mid-Victorian garnet cluster locket, dating to circa 1870, made in the traditional Bohemian garnet style. The front is pavé-set with tightly graduated, rose-cut garnets displaying the deep, wine-red hue characteristic of high-quality 19th-century production. Each stone is individually claw-set, creating the dramatic, light-catching surface typical of Bohemian garnet work.

The reverse exhibits a honeycomb-pierced backing plate, a hallmark of authentic Victorian construction. This lattice allowed reflected light to intensify the naturally dark garnets while reducing the overall weight of the piece. The interior retains its original oval locket compartment and bezel frame. I have included velvet lining and a pressed flower but this is deep enough for any chosen memento.

This is “garnet gold,” typical of these pieces - an alloy of  9 carat gold mixed with other metals: a warm gold-toned alloy with evidence of gold content but not testing as full 9ct.

Dimensions:

4 cm x 3 cm (including bail)

Condition: Very good antique condition. Garnets secure; expected age-related wear to the interior locket recess; fully functioning hinge and clasp.
